“From Boutique to Bucket” by Donna Nixon

Have you noticed how most of those small, boutique recruitment agencies of the 80’s and early 90’s have now turned into large bucket shops? Instead of taking off your coat, they take off your personality, identity and individuality and turn you into a number for their “books”. Consultants are now glorified sales people wearing invisible ear-muffs, advising you on what you want from your next job, when they don’t even look old enough to have any work experience themselves. Looking for a job is so disheartening and demeaning these days.

So when I happened across RMS I was pleasantly surprised by the reception. They can’t help everyone, but at least they tell you. They are just like the small boutique of yesteryear. They’re friendly, talk at your level but most importantly they listen and act on what you say. If you’re not interested in going for a job, they don’t mind. And they’re genuinely pleased when you find a job, even if it’s through another agency. When I found my job, which happened to be through a bucket shop, I had a good luck card from RMS and not even a phone call from the agency that placed me! If you find recruitment agencies a minefield, try this one out. But try not to tell too many people - we don’t want them growing up like the rest of them.
